Join artist Barry Sykes for a drawing class with a difference. Using the stepped seating of the sauna cabin as an ideal life drawing studio, this is a chance to relax, experiment, and understand more about how our bodies behave in the heat.
Using water-soluble coloured pencils, we'll start with some quick drawing exercises, then a few longer poses, to capture the reclining body as we relax along the benches. Enjoy three rounds of guided sketching in the heat plus the optional cold plunge.
Suitable for absolute beginners or those looking to play around with their techniques. All materials provided.
Barry will be your tutor and your model, with the chance for you to pose too if you wish. We'll use Barry's 'Errorless Drawing' process that looks at context not detail, encouraging playful, loose gestures over perfect results.
Barry Sykes is an artist and teacher, with a practice built around the overlap of drawing, making and performance. He is the founder of the Sauna Reading group and currently developing an Arts Council funded research project called #SaunaAsStudio that examines the untapped potentials of bathing culture through various events and activities.
